According to the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA) report, aquaculture will continue to expand – albeit at a slower pace – and farmed fish will have an increasing consumption and market share in the next decade.
Thus, the estimated forecasts for 2030 according to the FAO report for aquaculture, point to reaching 109 million tons, an increase of 32 percent (26 million tons) compared to 2018. This will mean that the contribution of aquaculture available to human consumption will grow from the current 52 % to 60 %.
Despite this trend, the aquaculture sector can be characterized as a sector poorly equipped with intelligent systems, with sometimes very empirical methods. Regardless of the size of the company, they all share common needs directly related to real-time monitoring of a wide range of parameters that allow anticipation and activation of not only action but also predictive tools.
This new paradigm, called connected aquaculture, will mean the integration of the IoT (Internet of Thinks) and that way allowing to increase the quality and integration of the acquired data. It will permit to have a global and continuous information of the production environment based on the Big -Data and Artificial Intelligence.
